About Recreation Basketball
K-2 Boys and Girls
Clinic is designed to create a fun, educational, and fundamental introduction to basketball.
- 8 sessions
- Clinics will be 1-hour sessions and take place on Saturday mornings with a start time between 8 am-12 pm, with the youngest kids starting in the earlier time slot
- Clinic groupings will be determined by registration and the number of players
3rd-Grade Boys and Girls
As your child enters the 3rd grade, we want to continue to stress fundamentals and introduce "gameplay." So, this year, Jr. Laker Basketball will create a 3v3 league.
In 3v3 basketball games, there are no actual positions, so every player has to react to what's going on in the game. This helps kids develop skills like defense, offense, spacing, and how to move with the ball without relying solely on drills to teach them.
- December will be an evaluation period with one to two clinics being held during the weeknights in the earlier time slots, usually starting around 6:30 pm (Mon-Thurs)
- Once teams are formed, joint practices will be held 1x per week, and one 3v3 game on a separate night in January and February
- Teams and games will be determined by registration and the number of players
4th-6th Boys and Girls
As your child enters the 4th grade, we will continue expanding to live 5v5 games with referees.
- December will be an evaluation period with one to two clinics being held during the weeknights in the later time slots, usually starting around 7:30 pm (Mon-Fri)
- Once teams are formed, joint practices will be held 1x per week, and one 5v5 game on a separate night in January and February
- Teams and games will be determined by registration and the number of players
7th-8th Boys and Girls
At this age, most kids playing basketball play for either the middle school teams (RVS/Briarcliff) or the MLBT travel programs. However, Jr. Laker Basketball can recommend other development programs in other towns if your child is looking for additional opportunities.
